Using Outdoors Bookstore

What is Outdoors?

Outdoors is a specialist online bookstore for people that love hiking, walking, traveling and wildlife. We specialize in trail guides, travel handbooks, and books about outdoor people and places.

No book is ordered directly at Outdoors. We refer you to the precise page at Amazon where the book can be bought in the usual way. This way you are reassured in using an easy-to-use, secure and proven e-commerce system.

The advantage of using Outdoors is our focus. It’s much easier for you to find interesting books from our specially handpicked selection of books, rather than trying to search the millions of titles that Amazon and other bookstores stock. For instance, you can simply browse great titles on our bookshelves at the Outdoors main page. And we take time to carefully review each book so you can find the one that’s right for you. Another advantage of Outdoors is that you can easily order your books at either Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk.

Do I buy from Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk?

This depends on you. Visitors residing in North America should use Amazon.com and those in Europe should use Amazon.co.uk. There is one exception - when a title is available at one Amazon store but not the other. This is likely to happen for more specific book, such as a regional hiking guide. In these cases we recommend you buy the book from the relevant Amazon store. It can take several weeks for an Amazon store to ship overseas but we have tested the process and Amazon deliver in exactly the same way – reliably, on-time, and with order information e-mailed to you.

If a book is available at both Amazon stores, two links are provided with the book details. If it is available at only one, then just the appropriate link is displayed.

How do I find a book?

There are two simple ways to find a book:

Browse. The bookshelves on the Outdoors main page randomly display eight books. If one catches your eye, click on the cover image for more details. Simply click on "Refresh Shelves" below the bottom row of books to view another eight randomly selected titles. Continue for as long as you wish.

Search. Use the search box by entering a keyword. You can further refine your search by specifying a category and/or region. If you wish to browse books in a specific category and/or region, leave the keyword field empty and use the menus. Hit the "Search" button to execute the search function.

If you cannot find the book you want then you may wish to use search all Amazon books. Simply click on an Amazon logo from any page to go to an Amazon Homepage.

What are the different categories?

We divide the books into five categories to make it easier to pinpoint the book you want. For instance, by using the search function you can find titles in a single category. The categories are:

Trail guides and maps
Handbooks, guides and maps that are focused on providing trail and hiking information.

Literary Outdoors
Journals, travelogues and first-person accounts of adventures and travels.

People and Places
Biographies of travelers, adventurers and naturalists, and titles about specific places, such as national parks and wilderness regions.

Travel Guidebooks
Handbooks and guides that give you practical information about visiting a country, region or national park.

Science and nature
Books about wildlife, travel health and relevant scientific matters, such as environmental topics.

Why do you donate to WWF?
